Swimmers are often very health conscious people. Depending on your level of commitment and training, you may want to consider altering your diet to take your performance to the next level. Eating lean meals with lots of protein will give you a great energy source to fuel your swim.
LEAN MEAL STAPLES
Healthy carbs and lean proteins… That’s where it’s at, my friends. What’s included on this list?
I’ll tell ya: whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, and more), veggies, beans, peas, lentils, eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, etc.
These are the types of foods that you want to eat on a regular basis. Nothing too sugary, nothing too fatty, and nothing too processed. Those foods will just clog your arteries and slow your system.
BUT WHAT IF I NEED MORE SUBSTANCE?
We understand… serious swimmers burn tons of calories.
So, if you need to add some “not so lean” options so that you have something to stick to your bones, choose healthy fats. Like polyunsaturated and monounsaturated oils: Fish oils, avocado, olive oil, nuts, etc.
Stay away from saturated fats like fatty cuts of beef and run from trans fats found in many fried and processed foods.
UNDERWATER AUDIO
Underwater Audio has produced an amazing Waterproof iPod Shuffle. Now, you can listen to music in the water while you swim!
Eating well is not the only way to bring your swim to the next level. This is a whole new type of training. The music helps you push through the pain and endure longer in the pool.
It’s definitely nice to have some calming background noise when you want to get in the zone and lose yourself in your workout. With that said, I highly recommend trying one out!
