We all know that swimming can help us fight off many things while also improving our health.
Today, we are going to look at how the mighty sword of swimming can defend and sometimes defeat the villain known as Diabetes.
KNOW THINE ENEMY
If we are going to lower our risk and in some cases, even beat diabetes, then we have to know everything we can about it.
So, first off… what is it? Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your body has high blood sugar and doesn’t produce enough insulin to take care of it or your cells don’t react to the insulin.
Okay, well… who can get it? Anyone can develop diabetes but those who carry a few extra pounds and do not exercise enough are at a higher risk.
now stomp him to the ground
How can you stop this disease or at least lower your risk for it?
It’s time to make some changes, that’s how. The first thing you need to do is change your diet. Eating healthier will greatly reduce your chances of getting diabetes.
Next, it’s time to get that heart rate up! This is where swimming comes in handy.
Swimming is a low impact work out that anyone can do (which is a big deal because diabetes can affect your joints- making it painful to run or walk). Swimming keeps you from putting strain on already burdened joints.
If you’re old or young, rich or poor, you can always find a pool. Swimming laps is relaxing! It also works all the major muscle groups at once. As you swim regularly, you will help your heart and your body fight off and prevent diabetes or at the very least put it in a very nasty choke hold!
one last thoughT
Diabetes is sweeping America with new cases everyday! If we do things to improve our health, we won’t be faced with such a trying disease.
So, swim for health and fun!
