Reading about swimming can really help you get in the mood to workout! It can also educate you and give you tips that will improve your technique in the pool.
With that said, the first awesome swimming book I’d like to review is by far one of the best exercise resources I’ve ever read. I can say that with confidence. If you are looking to swim faster (especially if you swim competitively in swim events or triathlons) this book is for you!
Swim speed secrets for Swimmers and Triathletes By: Sheila Taormina
This book is written by a 4-time Olympian, gold medalist, and triathlon world champion, Sheila Taormina. She shares all of her secret tips and technique suggestions. Supposedly, these techniques are used by the world’s fastest swimmers.
Throughout her career, Taormina studied underwater photographs and video analysis to perfect her swim. She is truly a life long student and teacher of the sport.
In her book, she explains how, “From Johnny Weissmuller to Michael Phelps, the world’s fastest swimmers share two common elements: high stroke rate and a high-elbow underwater pull…Many swimmers and triathletes neglect the pull, distracted by stroke count or perfecting less critical details like body position, streamlining, and roll. Swim Speed Secrets focuses on producing power.”
This book offers drills and strength building exercises so that we may glean off her swimming wisdom and expertise. It’s truly a great resource.
Underwater Audio
Now that you’ve read all about swimming, I bet you can’t wait to dive in the pool. Am I right?
To make the experience all the more enjoyable, try my secret weapon: Underwater Audio’s Waterproof iPod Shuffle. Listening to music while you swim is a workout saver!
It completely transforms your experience. One minute you could be dragging along and the next, BAM! You have so much adrenaline. Trust me on this one. It’s totally worth it.
